StarCluster 3 Beta Playtest

I got a big chunk of work done this weekend, and SC3E is almost ready for Beta playtest. It's fully playable now, it just needs some tweaking and a couple little additions. If anyone out there is interested in playtesting it, drop me a line here or at my email address, and we'll work it all out!

  1. Face-to-face or online? If online, I'd like to help.

  3. Well, that would be Alpha testing, which we are working on now. Beta testing is done by others who are not familiar with the material. Alpha tests the rules, while Beta tests the expression of the rules. Can someone pick up this game with no knowledge of the rules and run it? To do that, I cannot be involved. I know the game far too well, and can compensate for any lack of information without even being aware of it.

When I was a draughtsman, I couldn't check my own prints, because I would be blind to my own habitual mistakes. I would check others prints, and they would check mine. The same principal is at work here.

There is not a lot to do at the Alpha stage, as I'm using a thoroughly tested system - one I have been working with for a decade now - as the frame. Basically I'm making sure the parts are integrated well, and making small tweaks, like the TN adjustment to the StarRisk mechanic I mentioned in a previous post.

OTOH, if you gentlemen would like to play online that can also be arranged. :D

  4. Outside of my sort of monthly Battletech game, I don't have much of a regular face-to-face group to test with. I've recently started to play online with Maptools/Fantasy Grounds II, etc. and skype, so I'd be game to help out with Alpha testing.

  5. I'd call that Delta testing or later.

But yes I'd like to play online sometime.

  6. John & Tim:

Well, I don't do skype, and Maptools would not be excessively useful with this game, given its level of abstraction. I'm quite comfortable running in IRC, though. Would that be OK? If so, email me and we can work out a time.
